Ferdinand de Costa is the presumed author of one of the manuscripts of Fantaisie-Impromptu. According to the Chopin Institute’s documentation; Ferdinand de Costa was a supposed student of Chopin. However, he is not officially recognized as one. His manuscript of Fantaisie-Impromptu closly resembles the two manuscripts that were creates by Auguste Franchomme.

In my scholarly opinion, there is a possibility that de Costa was a student of Chopin, or at the very least, someone who would have been closely associated with Auguste Franchomme or Julian Fontana. For him to have been able to create a manuscript that resembles those of Franchomme, he had to be close to the original source. It’s also possible he may have had accessed to the original 1834 Manuscript before it was lost.

This indicates that there is possibility that Ferdinand may have had access to the now lost original manuscript. Although, that is speculation. Since there is no tangible information on Ferdinand other than the previously stated.
